Dennis Highfill takes over as head coach of the Halfway girls basketball team this year. He inherits a team that has posted back-to-back winning seasons with double-digit wins in six straight seasons and 10 of the past 11 seasons.

Seniors Elavia Sharp and Bailey Black along with junior Jaka Sharp will be team leaders this year. Black and Jaka Sharp were both named second-team all-conference last year.

Elavia Sharp is a strong shooter and great ball handler. Jaka Sharp is strong in the post at center. Black is also a great rebounder and defensive player.

Junior guards Sammi Gallivan and Hallie Rovenstine also return. Gallivan is a good shooter on the wing. Rovenstine brings a strong defensive presence.

Freshmen Morea Spears and Jada Breshears will be newcomers to watch.

“We expect to be very competitive and achieve success with our strong defense,” Highfill said. “They will be a very smart team and play hard defense. We need to develop and offensive game plan that gives the girls success in the half-court setting.”

Halfway opens the regular season on Nov. 19 at Stoutland.
