Weaubleau is coming off a 15-12 season with a roster featuring good numbers returning.
“Numbers (will be a strength),” Weaubleau head coach Blake Allen said. “We have 16 out this year with a lot of guys competing for varsity minutes, which will make our practices very competitive day in and day out.”
Avery West (sophomore guard), Brady Marquis (senior guard), Bryce Caufield (senior guard) and Wyatt Worley (sophomore guard) are all returning players.
Allen on West: “West played in all 27 games his freshman season. He is an all-around player that takes pride in his defense, rebounding, playing with max effort. He has had a great offseason expanding his game offensively and in his leadership.”
Allen on Marquis: “Brady is a really strong guard with a solid mid-range and three-point shot. He averaged nine points and three rebounds last year as a junior. If he can find a consistent motor to keep himself on the floor, he could have a really great senior year.”
Allen on Caufield: “Caufield takes a lot of pride in his defense and cares about one thing and that’s winning. He missed his junior year due to injury and we are really excited to have him back and healthy.”
Allen on Worley: “Wyatt also played in all 27 games last year as a freshman and is a high IQ competitive guard that brings a lot of leadership and we look for him to have a much larger role this year in our offense.”
Allen is looking for sophomores Peyton Hostettler (forward), Parker Rash (forward) and Reid Kilgore (guard) along with freshman Chase Durnell (guard) to make varsity impacts this season.
Allen on Hostettler: “Peyton brings a lot of grit and toughness to our team. He rebounds exceptionally well and always finds himself in the right spot around the rim where he has really improved using his off hand to finish.”
Allen on Rash: “The game comes really natural to Parker. He is a long, athletic wing that has a really soft touch, and a very high ceiling. Once he understands that, Rash could be one of the top players in our program for years to come.”
Allen on Kilgore: “Reid is strong from the three-point line that will make teams have to know where he is at all times.”
Allen on Durnell: “Durnell is a perimeter threat with a solid mid-range. He has a long wingspan that allows him to challenge shots and is looking to compete for minutes as a freshman.”
Weaubleau opens the season Dec. 1-6 at the Warsaw Tournament.
“I believe this team will become one that fans genuinely enjoy watching and supporting because of their relentless effort, teamwork, and the way they play the game,” Allen said. “This team will show that their greatest strength lies not only in their desire to win, but in their commitment to achieving it as one.”
