Gloria Deo boys basketball is off to a 1-1 start coming off a 13-14 campaign.
“Gloria Deo is in Year 3 of having a MSHSAA basketball program,” head coach Tyrone Davis said. “We are building something special here and these players were the beginning. Each year, more individuals learn about GDA for the first time, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to have a growing school and program that can compete on a MSHSAA level.”
Seniors Trenton King (guard) and Carter King (guard) along with juniors Nathan Schrandt (forward), Max Cunningham (guard), Caden Ball (forward) and Madden Morrison (forward) are the returning players.
“These boys have played in a lot of games together on the varsity level,” Davis said. “They don’t get rattled. They have had games where they have won by a large margin, and loss by a large margin. At this point, they have seen it all and rely on their ability to remain composed in hostile environments.”
Zach Jenkins (senior guard), Michael McLaughlin (sophomore forward), Greyson Myers (freshman guard) and Lelon Brandsma (freshman guard) are newcomers.
Davis will look for his team to show consistency.
“Consistency is key,” Davis said. “In the past we were inconsistent with how we approached the game and the point differential of our wins and losses spoke to that. I’d like them to grow in this area and see more games where we do not have periods of lapses during games.”
