Bradleyville boys basketball has a close-knit team after losing just one player from last season’s six-win team.
“The best part about this group is their character,” Bradleyville head coach Charles Hurst said. “They are great students as well. They are all friends off the court and when it’s time to get on the court, they get focused and work hard. We are still a young team with one senior and one junior playing at the varsity level. We are looking for big things from them as we go into the season.”
The returning senior is Will Mooney (guard) who averaged 4 points per game and led the team in charges last season.
“Will is a big threat from the outside and helps stretch the floor,” Hurst said.
Dylan Jennings (post) is the junior who averaged 9 points and 8 rebounds per game.
“Dylan has good footwork and great hands,” Hurst said. “He was second-team all- conference last season.”
Sophomores Jesse Dalton (guard), Jace Scott (forward) and Hayden Whittaker (forward) also return.
Dalton poured in 16 points per game as a freshman.
“He is a dynamic player that can play at the rim, spot up and play off the dribble,” Hurst said. “He is also, a good defender. He was first-team all-conference and all-district last season.”
Scott is a strong defender.
“Jace Scott returns as one of our best defenders,” Hurst said. “He can shoot it well and play off the dribble he causes a mismatch for opponents. He averaged 5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.”
Whittaker averaged 5 points per game last season and led the team in steals.
“He can shoot play off the dribble and guard,” Hurst said.
Freshmen Noah Blair, Lane Jussel and McCoy Humbyrd will look to make immediate varsity impacts.
“ Noah Blair comes in as a player that will make a impact from the start. He is a dynamic player that can score from anywhere. He handles the ball well and is a really solid defender,” Hurst said. “Lane Jussel is a big strong player that will help give us depth. He can score and rebound. McCoy Humbyrd is a big strong player that will help give us depth. He can score and rebound.”
Bradleyville opens the season on Nov. 25 at home against Mansfield.
