A pair of dominating performances highlighted the Class 2 District 3 girls golf tournament on Thursday at Whispering Oaks Golf Course in Marshfield.
In the team competition, Strafford won by 38 strokes with a 368. The duo of Ellie Heil and Harper Jacobs led the way for Strafford with matching 90’s to tie for fourth. Delainie Hedger was seventh with a 93. McKenna Peterson rounded out the scoring with a 95 good for ninth place. Strafford’s No. 5 golfer was Chesney Beckler who took 10th with a 96 to give Strafford five of the top 10 finishers in the tournament.
Mt. Vernon took second and will also compete at the Class 2 state tournament as a team. The Mountaineers shot a 406 and were led by Madison Phillips in third place with an 80. Emily Schubert was seventh with a 93. Courtnee Bishop placed 14th with a 106. The Mt. Vernon scoring was rounded out by Autumn Thomas in 43rd place with a 127. Jocelyn Liss was the fifth golfer for Mt. Vernon.
The domination on the individual side came in the form of defending Class 3 state champion Emree Cameron from Nevada. The University of Louisville commit shot a one-under 69 to win the individual title by six strokes over Liberty’s Kameryn Wood who shot a five-over 75. Cameron carded five birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey in the round.
Logan-Rogersville’s Lily Foster (4th – 90), Cassville’s Adelee Hendricks (11th – 97), Reeds Spring’s Saylor Johnson (12th – 99), Cassville’s Madison Robertshaw (13th – 105), Hollister’s Madison Harrison (15th – 107), Mountain Grove’s Zoey Criner (16th – 108), Clever’s Rylee Campbell (17th – 109), Seneca’s Chloe Arwood (17th – 109), Hollister’s Madelyn Dimetroff (17th – 109), Clever’s Sophia Fields (20th – 110), Clever’s Camella Schuchmann (20th – 110) and Seneca’s Madi Auman (20th – 20th) were the other individuals qualifiers to the Class 2 state tournament.
The Class 2 state golf tournament will take place Oct. 21-22 at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa.
