2023 All-O-Zone Girls Basketball Team

The All O-Zone Girls Basketball team as voted on by the KY3 & OzarksSportsZone.com staff is below. There are more than 100 girls basketball teams in the area, which makes this list extremely difficult to narrow down. We used many factors including opposing coach observations to get this list narrowed down.

Below are this year’s team with a first-team, second-team and honorable mention. Each team is in alphabetical order after the Player of the Year Kaemyn Bekemeier.

FIRST FIVE

Kaemyn Bekemeier, Republic – Player of the Year

Bekemeier was an easy call as the player of the year. She has been a star since Day 1 at Republic and holds all kinds of single game, season and career records at Republic. The Missouri State signee averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game. We always ask for coach input while deciding this team and no name was mentioned more times by opposing coaches than Kaemyn Bekemeier. It will be fun to follow her career at Missouri State for four more years.

STATS: 22.5 ppg, 10 rpg, 3 apg, 2 spg, 46% FG, 36% 3-FG
HONORS: Class 6 All-State, Co-COC Player of the Year, Class 6 District 5 Player of the Year

Destiny Buerge, Carl Junction

Carl Junction was the area’s best team and Buerge was that team’s best player. She earned Co-COC Player of the Year honors while averaging 23.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Defensively, Buerge was a star with 4.2 steals per game including a season-high 11 steals in a win over Ft. Smith Southside. Buerge had nine games with at least 30 points with a season-high 39 against Sapulpa. She came up big in the the most important games with 33 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals in a win over Nixa and 18 points, 5 assists and 4 steals in the win over Republic. She will play college basketball at Pittsburg State.

Norah Clark, Nixa

Clark was a steady presence for a Nixa team that battled injuries and featured some inexperienced players this season. The Class 6 all-state selection averaged 16.9 points per game with 472 total points scored on the season. She got it done at all levels shooting 48% from the field and 35% from three. She will play Division I basketball at UT-Martin next season.

HONORS: Class 6 All-State, Unanimous First-Team All-COC, All-Class 6 District 5

Macie Mays, El Dorado Springs

El Dorado Springs girls basketball has had a great run over the past decade with two state titles and a state runner-up finish. Of all the talented players who came through the program over that time, Mays might be the best. The Class 3 Player of the Year averaged 25.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 54.1% from the field as a senior. She set a school record with 804 points in one season. She also holds the school record for most points and made three-pointers in a single game and points in a career.

HONORS: Class 3 Player of the Year, First-Team All-Ozark Highlands

Raegan McCowan, Lebanon

McCowan will go down as an all-time program great for Lebanon girls basketball. She averaged 26.9 points per game as a senior on her way to breaking Lebanon’s career scoring record. She did more than just score, leading the team in rebounding with 9.1 per game while contributing 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She scored at least 30 points 12 times with a season-high 39 points against Central. On the season, McCowan posted 11 double-doubles. She finished her career with 43 consecutive games scoring in double figures. As a senior, McCowan scored at least 15 points in every game and was held below 20 points just four times. McCowan will play Division I basketball for Western Illinois.

Kameron Green, Fair Grove

STATS: 15.8 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 57% FG
HONORS: Class 3 All-State, Unanimous First-Team All-MLC, Class 3 District 11 Player of the Year

Breona Hurd, Waynesville

STATS: 27 ppg, 13 rpg, 3 apg, 3 spg, 1.3 bpg, 52% FG
HONORS: Class 6 All-State, First-Team All-Ozark Conference, All-Class 6 District 2

Allyssa Joyner, West Plains

STATS: 16 ppg, 7 rpg, 52% FG, 42% 3FG
HONORS: Class 5 All-State, First-Team All-Ozark Conference, Class 5 District 6 Player of the Year

Sami Mancini, Webb City

STATS: 17 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 2.7 bpg, 2 apg, 52.1% FG
HONORS: Class 5 All-State, Unanimous First-Team All-COC, All-Class 5 District 7

Sara Mendel, Ava

STATS: 18.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.5 spg, 1.8 spg, 2 bpg, 53% FG
