2022 All-O-Zone Girls Basketball Team

The All O-Zone Girls Basketball team as voted on by the KY3 & OzarksSportsZone.com staff is below. There are more than 100 girls basketball teams in the area, which makes this list extremely difficult to narrow down. We used many factors including opposing coach observations to get this list narrowed down.

Below are this year’s team with a first-team, second-team and honorable mention. Each team is in alphabetical order after the Player of the Year Bella Fontleroy.

FIRST 5

Bella Fontleroy, Kickapoo – Player of the Year

There isn’t much more you can say about Bella Fontleroy. She is one of the best high school players to ever come through Southwest Missouri. The Baylor signee won every award imaginable taking home Miss Show-Me Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year while being named Co-Ozark Conference MVP with West Plains’ Ashton Judd. She is the kind of talent that one day may be playing professional basketball.

STATS: 23.4 ppg, 11 rpg, 49.3% FG, 35.5% 3-pt FG (49 made)
HONORS: Gatorade Player of the Year, Miss Show-Me Basketball, Class 6 All-State, Co-Ozark Conference Player of the Year, First-Team All-Ozark Conference, Class 6 District 5 Player of the Year

Kaemyn Bekemeier, Republic

Bekemeier does just about everything on the basketball court and holds more Republic High School records than I can count. She went on an incredible run this year where she scored 38 in a game to break a single-game Republic record of 37 set by her during the 2020-21 season. She then re-broke THAT record with a 48-point performance in the next game. She is also already the career scoring leader at Republic with a season left. Missouri State got a steal in Bekemeier.

STATS: 22.8 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 spg, 2 apg, 51% FG
HONORS: Class 6 All-State, COC Player of the Year, Unanimous First-Team All-COC

Destiny Buerge, Carl Junction

Buerge really showed what she was capable of on the biggest stages in March. In the district championship against Willard, Buerge scored a game-high 23 points to help the Lady Bulldogs to a seventh straight district title. In the quarterfinal, she poured in 18 first-half points against eventual state champion West Plains. While West Plains would win the game, it was the closer than either of the Lady Zizzers’ final four games at a nine-point spread.

STATS: 22.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.9 spg, 2.9 apg, 42% FG, 33% 3-pt FG (73 made)
HONORS: Class 5 All-State, Unanimous First-Team All-COC, Class 5 District 6 Player of the Year

Ashton Judd, West Plains

Ashton Judd, a Mizzou commit, can really be summed up by this quote from Whitfield’s head coach after the state title game:

“I think anybody watching could see that in her mind, she was determined to win today… she was willing to put the team on her back. If they were going to lose, it would be on her back.”

Judd was focused all season on helping her team get back to a state title game and win it. Mission accomplished. The Lady Zizzers won the Class 5 state championship with Judd going for 30 points and 11 rebounds in the semifinals and 20 points and 6 rebounds in the state title game. She hit 16 of West Plains’ 33 shots and made 17 of 24 of their free throws in the final four.

HONORS: Class 5 Player of the Year, Co-Ozark Conference Player of the Year, First-Team All-Ozark Conference, Class 5 District 5 Player of the Year

Reese Schaaf, El Dorado Springs

Schaaf is a dynamic guard that affected the game in every way imaginable scoring 19.9 points per game to go with 7.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.3 steals while shooting a ridiculous 57% from the field. In the final four, she had a 19-point, 17-rebound masterpiece in a two-point semifinal win over Strafford. Eight of those rebounds were offensive. She almost pulled another double-double in a state championship blowout with 15 points and 9 rebounds. She was named Class 3 Player of the Year in addition to conference and district player of the year. She is signed with Drury.

Macie Conway, Nixa

STATS: 15.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.9 spg, 52% FG, 33% 3-pt FG
HONORS: Class 6 All-State, Unanimous First-Team All-COC

Cassidy Hambelton, Dora

STATS: 30.7 ppg, 7 rpg, 5.1 apg, 4.2 spg, 45.2% FG, 36.3% 3-pt FG (77 made)
