Four players score in double figures to lead Lamar to district quarterfinal win

No. 4 seed Lamar turned a three-point first-quarter deficit into a 16-point win over conference rival East Newton to advance in the Class 3 District 12 tournament.

East Newton looked to avenge a regular season loss to the Tigers and got off to a good start with a 14-11 lead over Lamar after one quarters.

The Tigers got things going in the second quarter with a 17-9 advantage taking a 28-23 lead into the break. Lamar had the advantage in each of the final two quarters on the way to a 66-50 victory.

Free throws played a big role in the win for Lamar. The Tigers went 21-for-26 from the line while East Newton went 12-for-23 from the line.

Kennedy Evans led Lamar with 21 points. Kynlee McCulloch (12 points), Zavrie Wiss (10 points) and Ashlyn Stettler (10 points) gave Lamar four players in double figures.

Shaw Coburn led East Newton an all scorers with 22 points.

Lamar advances to face top seeded Stockton in the Class 3 District 12 semifinals at 6 pm on Thursday in Diamond.
