Liberty uses balanced attack to beat Seymour in district quarterfinals

(Class 3 District 10) The Liberty Lady Eagles (#4 seed) battled the Seymour Lady Tigers (#5 seed) Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Mansfield High School

No. 4 Liberty kept No. 5 Seymour at arm’s length to hold on for a 44-39 win in the Class 3 District 10 quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Liberty came out hot taking a 19-10 advantage after the first quarter thanks in large part to Reagan Wells knocking down three 3-pointers.

Seymour had a response.

The Tigers held Liberty to just two points in the second quarter to cut the Liberty lead to one at 21-20 heading into the half.

In the third quarter, it was Liberty’s turn to ratchet up the defensive intensity. The Eagles held Seymour to four points in the frame to take a 33-24 lead into the fourth quarter. Seymour posted a 15-11 advantage in the fourth quarter, but the lead proved insurmountable.

Wells and Chowning led Liberty with 13 points each. Lyla Cornman added in 11 points. Sydnee LaFevers scored seven for Liberty, as four players accounted for all of Liberty’s scoring.

Addison Ridenour led Seymour and all scorers with 14 points.

Liberty advances to face top seeded Mansfield at 6 pm on Wednesday in the Class 3 District 10 semifinals.
