It’s hard to think about girls’ basketball in Southwest Missouri without thinking of Kaemyn Bekemeier.

The Republic senior owns almost every school record and is preparing to represent the Ozarks for more years to come.

“She can definitely take it to a different level,” said Republic Girl’s Basketball Coach Kris Flood.

She’s been playing on another level for years. Bekemeier holds nine school records.

Single Game:

Most points (48)

Most free throws (18)

Most field goals (18)

Most rebounds (23)

Single Season:

Most points (639)

Most free throws (150)

Most field goals (225)

Career:

Most points (1,613) and counting

Most free throws (409) and counting

All that success started freshman year when Kaemyn was on JV.

“We got to that first game and started watching her in that JV game and it was like ‘Okay, we’re going to make this transition pretty quick,’” Flood said.

A good freshman season earned her some attention.

“Being a little freshman, I was just hoping to get an offer one day, and then getting my first offer I was just like, ‘Okay, someone that knows basketball so well has confidence in me,’” said Republic senior Kaemyn Bekemeier.

Her recruitment started early and ended early as she committed to the Lady Bears after her freshman year.

“It is weird making a lifelong four-year decision when you’re 15 years old, it’s still crazy to think about but I have no regrets,” Kaemyn said.

Through coaching changes in the Lady Bears program, her commitment has stayed consistent, and so have her goals for her senior season.

“I definitely hope to win the conference and win our district and go as far as we can. Our ultimate goal is state,” she added.

With Kaemyn, the sky’s the limit, “She’s just a really good leader, she took on that role a lot last year,” Flood said.

When she’s done as a Lady Tiger, “She’s definitely going to leave a mark on the program,” Flood said.
