Missouri State Bears earn NCAA Baseball Tournament bid; play Arkansas in opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Missouri State Bears have returned to the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Bears (34-19, 20-10 Conference USA) will open NCAA Regional Tournament play against the No. 2 regional seed, the Arkansas Razorbacks (39-20, 17-13 SEC). First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday in Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas is the host school and will face off against No. 4 Northeastern Huskies.

Missouri State finished third in Conference USA regular-season play. The Bears advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Missouri State is led by Logan Fyffe’s .371 batting average. Logan-Rogersville High School product Curry Sutherland provided the power, smashing 16 home runs. Starting Pitcher Jason Schaaf finished the season with a 4-2 record and a 5.74 ERA.

Arkansas and Missouri State have quite the baseball history, playing in regionals and super regionals. The two split two games in the regular season, each winning on their home field.

Missouri State last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2022. The Bears have one College World Series appearance in 2003.
