The Springfield Catholic Lady Irish raced by an eight team field, on Tuesday at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course, to capture this year’s Big 8 Conference Championship.

The Irish carded a 339 for their day’s work finishing 43 strokes ahead of the runner-up Logan-Rogersville Wildcats who posted a 382. Finishing third were the McDonald County Mustangs who came in at 407.

Reagan Zibilski topped the Catholic scorecard with a 75. Rounding out the Irish effort were Lyla Louderbaugh (78), Celia Stiltner (85), Reagan West (101) and Audrey Moore (123).

The runner-up Wildcats were paced by Brooke Wagner’s 76. Out in front for the Mustangs was Lilly Allman who posted a 75.

The Big 8 Conference win was the fourth victory in five attempts for the Irish in 2020.

“Our kids played well today and I’m really proud of their effort,” said head coach Frank Gallant. “But we were without Kyleigh Pfitzner today and I think our girls were missing her. But we hope to have her back by district time and it will be good to have all our kids together again.”

Zibilski also finished the day as the tournament’s top medalist. But it took a two hole playoff with McDonald County’s Lilly Allman to do it.

Zibilski and Allman both carded 75’s through regulation play.

Both Zibilski and Allman logged pars on the first hole of the playoff but on the second Allman recorded a bogey and Zibilski a par to grab this year’s Big 8 Conference top medalist honors.

“Overall I feel like I had a good day of golf. I had a few problems at first today but I think I bounced back pretty well,” said Allman.

“Getting to tee off with Reagan in a playoff though was special,” said the Mustang senior. “Reagan is very good and it’s always fun to play with her. Even though I came up a bit short, meeting her in a playoff was incredible.”

Zibilski is now looking forward.

“This was a good win for us today and winning the Big 8 Conference is always great,” she said. “But, without Kyleigh things just felt different today.”

“I think we all just had a lot of fun today,” Zibilski said. “But we all know what’s ahead so we need to get back to work.”
