“I don’t know, it’s just special. I haven’t ever imagined myself anywhere else,” Julia Reaves said.
Three years ago, Julia Reaves took over as the head volleyball coach at Cabool, her alma mater.
“It’s so much different how you see the floor as a coach, opposed to when you were a player,” said Reaves.
“I don’t know if anybody can know what to expect coming into this. It’s a whole different world,” said Ava volleyball coach Bailey Loge.
Stepping into her first head coaching job, Bailey Loge is realizing the same thing. As a former Ava player, Loge is now back, on the other side of the clip board.
“It is really exciting. I feel like it’s a great opportunity to be back in a school district that I’m so familiar with,” said Loge.
“I actually told my team the other day, I said, girls, I’ve lived through this. I understand. I understand what’s going, and I just want you to realize that you’re never going to get these moments back,” Reaves said.
Because these coaches have been there, the love they have for their teams is even stronger.
“It’s really special. I’ve known some of these players since they were playing small stars in fourth grade,” said Loge.
“They’re like my family, and they’re always welcome at my house. We’re just a big family,” Reaves said.
Happy to be back at their alma maters, Julia Reaves and Bailey Loge hope this is just the beginning of a long journey.
“I’m excited to see where this season goes. I feel like we’ve just gotten started, and we have a lot of volleyball to play, hopefully, and we’re going to keep rolling, and we’re going to keep having fun and working hard,” said Loge.
“I’ve bled blue my whole life, and I’m going to continue to bleed blue as long as they’ll let me,” Reaves said.
So you want to be here for —
“I’ll be here for thirty years if they let me, so I don’t know, we’ll see what happens,” said Reaves.
