Seneca softball finished at 12-10 last year with a loss to Monett in its district-opening game.

The Lady Indians bring back one of the top pitchers in the Big 8 this year in Chelsea Beville. She was named second-team all-conference as a junior.

“She does a great job controlling what she can control and is a competitor from the circle,” Seneca coach Jeff Sill said. “She will lead by her preparation and performance. She will do a good job encouraging our younger players.”

Junior Sierra Lannon, sophomore Hunter Beard and freshman Emily Askren are all candidates to see time in the circle as well. Lannon and Beard will be candidates to play in the infield when not pitching. Mandy Dunbar (senior), Kadelyn Ackerson (junior), Kayden McKnight (sophomore), Maci Brown (freshman) and Liberty Cornell (freshman) will round out the players to expect to see on the infield. Cornell and Lannon will see time at catcher.

The outfield will see Ackerson, French, Askren and Dunbar along with sophomore Aliya Grotjohn will be in the mix to play outfield for Seneca.

“This team will lean on each other and use teamwork,” Sill said. “(We want to) improve with each game and focusing on improving our fundamentals throughout the season.”

Seneca will open the regular season Sept. 3 at home against Carthage.
