KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Evangel football team was left out of the 2018 NAIA Football playoffs announced by the national office on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders finished the season 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the Heart South Division after a hard-fought loss Saturday at Baker. Evangel had started the season receiving votes before an 8-0 start to the season saw the Crusaders climb as high as No. 6.

With wins over three top 25 teams, including playoff teams from Benedictine and Grand View, the Crusaders stand on the outside looking in as the committee took five at-large teams. Teams in the top 20 of the final poll released later today received an automatic bid with the remaining five teams earning at-large berths. Benedictine and Baker both earned the automatic bids from the Heart of America as Grand View gives the conference three schools in the playoffs as an at-large.

Evangel closes the 2018 season ranked No. 14. To view the final regular season top 25 click here.
