JOPLIN, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University designated hitter and former Clever standout Chance Wolfe broke the SBU career hits record on Friday morning, but the Bearcats fell to Lindenwood 13-3 in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament. With the loss SBU drops to 30-20 on the season.

Following a one hour lightning delay, the Bearcats opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning with Caleb Sneed and Wolfe hitting back-to-back singles to give SBU runners in scoring position early. Wolfe’s single broke the SBU career hits record, as he has now recorded 239 hits during his career. Sneed moved up to third on a flyout from Hunter Hisky, and came home on an RBI groundout from Sean Murley to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Nelson Muniz then hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Wolfe, and extending the Bearcat lead to 2-0. Lindenwood responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at 2-2.

SBU quickly re-took the lead in the top of the second. Andrew Meier led the inning off with a single to center field, was sacrificed to second, and came home on an RBI single from Sneed to give the Bearcats a 3-2 lead. At the conclusion of the top of the second, another lightning delay went into effect delaying the game 30 more minutes. Out of the lightning delay Lindenwood used 11 unanswered runs as the Bearcats would eventually fall 13-3.

Southwest Baptist will now play the loser of the Northwest Missouri/Missouri Western game on Friday, May 12 at 9:00 a.m.
