Rain caused havoc for all five state golf tournaments. Classes 4 and 5 had to cancel the first round and go to one-round only tournaments on Tuesday. Each golf tournament experienced some type of delay over the two days.

Despite the delays, local golfers responded well by winning three individual and one team title across the five classes.

CLASS 5

Nixa’s Peyton Burbridge made history in Class 5 by shooting a 69 to win the Class 5 state championship by one stroke over Ozark’s Riley Franklin. He is Nixa’s first-ever individual state champion in golf.

He tore up the par 5 holes, shooting four under on the four par 5’s on the course. He also birdied the par-4 seventh hole.

Franklin also carded five birdies on his way to a state runner-up finish. The duo was the only area to finish in the top 20.

Carl Junction’s Logan Lowry was the top finisher in the one-round Class 4 state tournament with a 75 to finish tied for 11th overall. The Bulldogs were also the only area team to qualify placing seventh overall.
