Greenwood holds off Lamar to win Gem City Classic

Greenwood held off a fourth-quarter comeback by Lamar to win the Gem City Tournament championship game 42-39 on Saturday in Diamond.

The Blue Jays led by one point, 12-11, after one quarter. In the second quarter, Greenwood went to work on both ends posting its best offensive and defensive quarter of the night outscoring Lamar 14-2 to build a 26-13 lead going into the half.

Out of the break, Lamar began chipping away at Greenwood’s lead outscoring the Blue Jays 15-11 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Lamar held Greenwood to five points, but could only manage 11 points of its own.

Kalen Hetzler led Greenwood with 15 points. After Hetzler, Greenwood was balanced with seven other players scoring between two and five points.

Lamar was paced by Jude Harris with 11 points.
