Golden City boys basketball bounced back from a three-win season two years ago with a 12-win season last year.

Two senior starters in Spencer Parrill and Jamison Menadue return this season. They combined to average 36 points per game last season.

Junior Caleb Hughes along with sophomores Braxyn Wirth, Wyatt Pettengill and Peyton Parrill are all in the mix for varsity action.

Hughes averaged 10 points per game last season.

“Caleb Hughes will have a major upside to our team this season,” Graves said. “I believe he will push that even higher. He has a very hard work ethic on defense as well.”

Graves was impressed by the players’ work in the off-season across the board.

“The biggest strength this year is the work put into the off-season in the weight room, conditioning and improving skills,” Golden City head coach Joey Graves said. “We had positive outcomes from summer ball and competed well.”

Golden City opens the regular season on Nov. 21 at home against Northeast Vernon County.

“A successful season for us will be key wins against tough opponents and making a postseason run in district competition,” Graves said. “I’m most optimistic that the off-season work put in by our team will lead to success this season. I’m looking forward to having competitive games.”
