Licking Girls Basketball has built a reputation for its winning tradition, and last season was no exception, as the Lady Wildcats finished with 17 wins and competed for a district title. With a younger roster this year, the team is focused on developing and maintaining a competitive edge as it looks to build on last year’s success.
“We expect to compete for a Frisco and district title every year,” said head coach Steve Rissler. “This year is no different. We have a ‘next girl up’ mentality.”
Coach Rissler said his team also expects to be overlooked early due to graduating four starters.
Sophomore guard Hadlee Davis earned first team All-Frisco and all-district honors as a freshman. “I expect her to continue to grow as a player,” said Rissler. “We count on her for ball handling, scoring, and defense.”
Junior guard Keely Gorman served as a part-time starter as a sophomore. “She will have a breakout season as a junior,” said Coach Rissler. “She uses speed to get to the basket but can also shoot from the three.”
Kylee Rinne is also a returning junior guard. “Rinne is a zone buster,” said Rissler. “She has an excellent three-point shot and knack for being in the right place at the right time.”
Junior post Morgan Stone “is a true five man,” per her coach. “She had a great summer and I expect her to control the paint on both ends,” said Rissler.
Senior wing Addison Floyd “has waited for her opportunity to play significant varsity minutes,” said Coach Rissler. “She has a good head on her shoulders, and her mid-range game is legit.”
Jayde Thompson is another returning junior guard. “Jayde is a fiery player who is at her best in the open court,” said Rissler.
Incoming freshman girls expected to contribute include Bailee Medlock, a 5’1” guard. “Bailee has a shooter mentality and is always ready to compete with the best,” said Coach Rissler.
Freshman Penelope Huff, a 5’10” wing, “is a super athlete,” said Rissler. “She has a tremendous upside. Penny can do things other girls can’t due to her athleticism and height.”
Addie Hart, 5’7” post, is the final freshman. “Addie is a steady-Eddie player,” said Coach Rissler. “She blocks out, plays d, and never takes a bad shot.”
Despite being young, the Lady Wildcats handle the ball well, have multiple girls who can score, and possess exceptional guard speed. They compete in a jamboree November 13 at Fatima with Fatima and Blair Oaks. Their bid to continue their winning legacy begins at home vs. Salem on November 25.
