Nixa sweeps Incarnate Word to take third place in Class 5

Nixa volleyball closed out its season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18) sweep of Incarnate Word to capture the Class 5 third place trophy.

It is the program’s fifth state trophy all-time and first third place finish.

In the first set, Incarnate Word took a 1-0 lead before Nixa scored the next four points and never trailed in the set. The Lady Eagles led by as many as 10 points at 23-13 before winning 25-21.

The second set stayed tight until a 15-15 tie. From that point, Nixa got three kills from Taylor Wood, one kill from Gwen Kubik and an ace from Peyton Creed to take a commanding 20-15 lead before finishing the set off on a 5-1 run to win 25-17.

Incarnate Word came out on fire in the third set taking the first four points and leading by as many as five at 7-2. Nixa responded with a 7-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. The set stayed close until late, but the Lady Eagles were able to close it out scoring seven of the final 10 points to win 25-18 and secure the third place trophy.

Wood was a force in all facets of the match with a team-high in kills (15), assists (21) and digs (10). Kubik added 12 kills. Creed had 13 assists. Mara Coulter tied Wood with 10 digs.

Nixa finishes the season with a 29-10 record overall.
