Webb City won the first two sets of its Class 4 third place match against Hannibal, but could not get the crucial third set falling 3-2 to finish fourth.
The Lady Cardinals swept through the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16. They did not trail once in the first set and didn’t trail after a 7-7 tie in the second set.
The third set was tight throughout with the biggest lead being Hannibal by five at 19-14 before winning it 25-22. Hannibal took a 3-2 lead in the third set and never trailed on the way to a 25-19 win to force the deciding fifth set.
In the fifth set, Hannibal got out to a 3-0 lead, but Webb City fought back to take a 10-9 lead. Hannibal responded by scoring six of the final eight points to take the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Marlee Harper led Webb City with 13 kills followed by Addy Maxwell with 10. Jaylee VanBecelaere and Kaelyn Maxwell each had seven kills apiece. Savannah Crane had 32 assists for the Lady Cardinals. Defensively, Avery Gardner had 25 digs to lead Webb City.
Webb City finishes the season with a 25-12 record.
