New Covenant volleyball’s quest for a state championship game appearance came up one match short in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) loss to St. Vincent.
The Lady Warriors came out hot in the first set building up a 17-10 lead before the Lady Indians rattled off eight-consecutive points to take a 18-17 lead on the way to the 25-21 first-set victory.
The second set was tight through the first 32 points with the teams tied at 16-16. From there, St. Vincent went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-16 lead on the way to the 25-19 lead.
In the final set, St. Vincent came out hot and built up a 20-10 lead, but New Covenant responded with a 10-1 run to cut St. Vincent’s lead to two at 21-19. The Lady Indians would close out the set on a 4-2 run to secure the 25-21 set victory and match.
Kiera Edwards led New Covenant with nine kills. She was followed by Gabriela Gaumer with seven kills, Addison Cuquet with six kills and Adelyn Mouery and Christin Voznyarska with four kills each.
Mouery and Chloe Hurst each had 11 assists.
Audrey Mouery led the defensive effort with 24 digs with Adelyn Mouery adding in 16 digs.
St. Vincent was led by 21 kills from Kate Rubel. The Lady Indians were strong on the serve with eight aces in the match.
New Covenant faces East Buchanan in the third place game at 2 pm on Thursday.
