All-State midfielder Gage Weston watches more than just game film.
“I watch a lot of movies,” the Glendale senior said. “I’m like a movie critic. I watch one a day.”
Gage is always up for a good movie when he is not speeding around on the pitch.
“He is probably one of the fastest players I’ve ever coached,” said Glendale head boys soccer coach Jeff Rogers.
Gage’s legs get him past defenders, setting himself up for 31 goals so far this season. But there’s more to Gage than just putting the ball to the back of the net.
“When you see players that have a lot of goals, they might be low on the assists, but he creates a lot of opportunities, not only for himself but for his teammates,” Rogers said.
“If I have a goal scoring shot, I’m going to shoot it,” Gage said. “But if it’s 50-50 I’m sliding the ball across and letting them have it every time.”
With 19 assists, Gage’s passing is just as seamless as his move to Glendale. After transferring from Parkview last school year, he reunited with several familiar faces.
“I grew up playing for Sporting Springfield, so I’ve been playing with almost the whole team for about six or seven years now,” Gage said. “At Parkview, soccer wasn’t as much as a tradition as it is at Glendale.”
Gage reached the state quarterfinals in his first year with the Falcons. He’s hoping in his final high school season, it’s a postseason thriller, just like his favorite film.
“’Seven’ with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. You have to watch it. It’s a good movie,” Gage said.
