Mountain Grove boys, Houston girls win SCA XC team championships

The Mountain Grove boys and Houston girls came away with team championships at the SCA Cross Country championships contested at the Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course on Monday.

Mountain Grove got it done with a pack of three sophomore runners in Trece White (18:29.53), Skyler Oliphant (18:50.87) and Max Gulliams (19:11.84) placing third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Juniors Mason Henry (23rd – 22:04.78) and Trigg DeVries (25th – 22:17.18) rounded out the scoring for Mountain Grove in fourth and fifth place for the team. Freshman Masen Byerly and sophomore Lincoln Zohner were the sixth and seventh runners for Mountain Grove.

Mountain Grove scored 58 points as a team to beat runner-up Ava by 12 points. Houston was in third with 74 points.

Ava senior Isaac Smith won the individual title in a time of 17:18.81, which was just under 57 seconds faster than runner-up Caleb Bates from Liberty.

It was a Houston sweep in the girls race with freshman Lyla Huffman taking the individual title by almost three minutes in a time of 20:35.03. Lilly Kincaid (6th – 24:40.68), Jessyn Allen (8th – 25:36.75), Natalie Clinton (9th – 26.02.12) and Adyson Dailing (12th – 26:50.40) rounded out the scoring runners for Houston with Jesslyn Crawford finishing sixth on the team.

Houston finished with 26 points to best runner-up Mountain Grove’s 31-point output. Mountain Grove was led by runner-up Makynli Blackwell who ran a time of 23:29.89.
