Strafford and Mountain Grove took the top two spots in the team competition at the Class 2 District 3 golf tournament on Wednesday at Bill & Payne Golf Course in Springfield.
The Indians shot a 367 as a team to win the team competition by 44 strokes. Delainie Hedger was runner-up in the individual competition, leading Strafford with a 90. McKenna Peterson (4th – 90), Chesney Beckler (6th – 91), Harper Jacobs (9th – 101) and Camryn Zbaren (11th – 102) gave Strafford five of the top 11 finishers.
Runner-up Mountain Grove shot at 411 to qualify as a team. The Panthers were paced by Peyton Tyrrell in seventh place with a 94. Chloe Slagle was 12th with a 103. Payton O’Connor and Gabby Miller shot matching 107’s to tie for 18th. Emma Crewse rounded out the Mountain Grove team with a 115, which was good for 33rd place.

Reeds Spring junior Saylor Johnson won top individual honors with an 80 to take the top spot by five strokes. Johnson was on fire for the first nine shooting a 37 including a birdie on the Par 5 second hole. On the back, she shot a 43 with a birdie on the Par 4 15.
Mt. Vernon’s Emily Schubert (2nd – 85), Greenwood’s Dylan Lee (4th – 90), Ava’s Abi Dalton (8th – 99), Buffalo’s Addie Armstrong (9th – 101), Clever’s Camella Schuchmann (12th – 103) and Chloe Frazier (14th – 104), Mt. Vernon’s Stella Freitag (14th – 104), Buffalo’s Grace Batt (16th – 105), East Newton’s Ella Marion (16th – 105), Greenwood’s Ruby Brothers (18th – 107) and Gwyndolyn Gelner (21st – 108) and Seneca’s Madi Auman (21st – 108) qualified as individuals.
The Class 2 state tournament will be held at the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield on Oct. 21 and 22.
