According to the Glendale softball roster, she is Peyton Lindstrom, but the junior’s teammates call her by another name.

“Her freshman year, she got the nickname baby giraffe,” said Glendale head softball coach Turner Jackson. “She was not clumsy, but just getting used to her size.”

“We were doing between-inning [work] and I was taking ground balls and I tripped on my shoe laces and did a front flip,” Lindstrom said.

The shortstop might be the most athletic baby giraffe anyone has ever seen.

“[This weekend] she had a triple, her first home run this past weekend, two or three doubles, four stolen bases, and she batted 535 somewhere around that range,” Jackson said.

That is all just a weekend tournament’s worth. Lindstrom is coming off a sophomore campaig,n batting .524 with 33 stolen bases.

“Her stats, I mean from freshman year all the way through junior year so far have been unbelievable,” Jackson said. “Mentally, she has just gotten stronger every season and definitely matured as a leader.”

Lindstrom has a deep athletic bloodline. Her brother currently plays football at Tennessee and the list continues.

“My dad played baseball at Mizzou and so did my grandpa,” Lindstrom said. “My uncle also played football at Mizzou so it’s kind of like passed down a little bit.”

Lindstrom’s dad created his own nickname for her.

“He calls me ‘Bugsy’ and I don’t like it at all. Sometimes he tells my coaches and they just call it to me [too],” Lindstrom said while shaking her head.

Bugsy, baby giraffe, Peyton Lindstrom, she goes by it all. Now add to it Ozark Sports Zone’s Athlete of the Week.
