Crane volleyball will have a versatile lineup coming off a 10-win season.

“All our athletes can play in all six rotations,” Crane head coach Nikki Kennedy said. “If we need to change things up, this team will do whatever they need to get the job done.”

Seniors Harper White (middle) and Bella Simphaly (right side) return as leaders.

“We will be looking at our seniors this year to lead our team on the court,” Kennedy said. “Harper and Bella will be key players for us on the net. Harper is a dominant presence on the net; with her volleyball knowledge she will help with our team movement. Bella is a versatile player. She is a strong player and ready to step up at any spot we need her. She has been working hard this summer to get more familiar with her role this season.”

White was second on the team in kills with 117 last season.

Sophomore middle Abbie Wells returns after a strong freshman season.

“Abbie came in as a freshman last year and made a statement she was ready to do what it takes for the team,” Kennedy said. “She will be a key player at the net this season. She has worked hard this summer to improve on all areas of the court.”

Junior outside Maya Minton rounds out the returning players.

“Maya is a very consistent and reliable outside,” Kennedy said. “She takes what she learns and executes it in games. She is able to see the floor when attacking the ball, which will be a plus for us this season.”

Juniors Ellie Metcalf (setter), Laynie Glossip (outside) and Yesenia Minton (outside) will be moving up to consistent varsity roles.

“Ellie will be moving up from JV last season to take on a huge setters position,” Kennedy said. “She has worked hard this summer on her setting game and will continue to perfect her skills. Laynie and Yesenia can play in the front row with ease but can move to the back row if they needed.”

Peyton Cutbirth (sophomore) and Kayce McKnight (freshman) will look to make impacts as defensive specialists.

“Peyton is a confident server that will come in when needed,” Kennedy said. “Kayce coming in as a freshman will look to get some varsity time. She is quick on her feet and can read the court.”

Transfer Madison Lansdown rounds out the newcomers.

“Madison Lansdown will come in as a transfer and make an immediate impact on varsity,” Kenned said. “Her personality is amazing, and her communication skills are a plus for us in the back row.”

Crane travels to Marionville for a jamboree on Aug. 26 with Monett and Marionville. The Lady Pirates open the season on Aug. 30 at the Monett Tournament.

“My goal is to help them grow not just as volleyball players, but as teammates, leaders, and people,” Kennedy said. “I have confidence in all our athletes to compete and grow in every practice and game.”
