Ash Grove volleyball finished 11-14-4 last season and graduated four key seniors from that team.
“We graduated four seniors last year that saw varsity time,” Ash Grove head coach Diana Eiberger said. “All other members of the returning team are going to have impactful roles to the team this season. As some transition into new positions and in the leadership areas on and off the floor.”
Senior Zoë Welsh played outside last season putting down 172 kills for fourth on the team.
“She (Welsh) is impactful in helping maintain the calm on the floor when things get intense,” Eiberger said. “She lifts everyone up when errors are made and holds herself to the same standard. Zoë is going to be an exciting player to watch this season.”
Junior Bristol Lathrop was second on the team in kills with 179.
“Bristol Lathrop is a returning junior that played outside last season and a bit of the right side as well,” Eiberger said. “We may see her transition to the middle of the floor some this year. She is a competitor that wants what’s best for the team and pushes herself every day. Bristol has high energy on the floor and bursts into excitement for her team when plays are made.”
Millie Willmon will have an expanded role at setter in her sophomore season.
“Last year, she (Willmon) played strong roles for both our junior varsity and our varsity,” Eiberger said. “This season, we look to her to run the majority of our offense at a high level. Millie is a positive influence on the floor and helps our players throughout various areas of volleyball.”
Freshmen Michelle Harwood and Collins Rust could both make an immediate impact on varsity.
“This year’s team is versatile,” Eiberger said. “They have shown that they want to play and compete this season. They have all agreed to learn multiple positions and the responsibilities that they bring. Through that they are able to adapt to what the team needs in the moment.”
Ash Grove opens the season on Aug. 28 at home against Billings.
“(We want to) compete, encourage, and have fun,” Eiberger said. “What’s best for the team is what we are going to do as a coaching staff and athlete.”
