Marshfield soccer went through some growing pains last season going 2-23 overall, but things are looking up in 2025 with basically the entire roster returning.

“Last we were a varsity team made up entirely of sophomores and juniors,” Marshfield head coach Thomas Searson said. “This season, that same group will be a year older, a year stronger, a year faster, and a year more experienced.  They are ready to take the lessons of last year and use them to improve for the 2025 season.

The year of playing together plus an off-season of work has improved the teamwork of the group.

“What’s improved the most is how these guys work together as a team,” Searson said. “They are seeing the benefit of having all 11 players on the field be on the same page and involved in every play. This has shown in our summer scrimmages and summer workouts.  If we continue to improve along the vein of being a “unit” then this team could really surprise some people.”

Riley Daily will be a boost to the offense at forward. He missed last season after tearing his ACL in the jamboree. Mason Lawrence will join him up top after playing as a lone forward much of last season.

“These two complement each other well, and I think they will be a good combination on the attack,” Searson said.

The midfield has a lot of options including Kannon Cordova, Sebastian Perez Rivera, Luke Huffman, Ben Baker, Cameron Obregon, Luke Orphan, Isaac Baker and Coltan Ragsdale. Karter Massey might fill a dual role in the midfield and on defense.

Johnny McGlynn will anchor the center of the defense in his junior season. Kobe Prasetyo and Devon Aguirre also return at defender. Vince Ewan returns after an injury-shortened season. Sophomore Gaspar Silva is a newcomer who could play defense or in other spots.

Ian Admire returns for his senior season at goalkeeper.

“Ian got the starting spot shortly after the season began and improved every game as the year progressed,” Searson said. “He gained valuable experience, and I look for him to be a key part of our defensive unit this year. He’s an intelligent goalkeeper with good athleticism. He reads the game well and will give our defenders confidence.”

Marshfield opens the season with its home tournament Aug. 29-30.

“I expect our determination to show this season,” Searson said. “These guys went through many difficult situations last season and handled the adversity with class. They came through it better players and better people than they were before, and I really hope they will reap the rewards of those experiences this year.”
