Fair Play enters the second season under coach Mandy Hancock coming off a 7-6 season marking the first above .500 finish for the program since winning a district title in 2014.
The Hornets have seven starters and 12 lettermen back from the 2024 squad.
“My expectation is that we do better than last year with an even stronger team,” Hancock said.
Senior MeKenzie Evans and sophomore Jocee Mayfield will be the team’s top two pitchers.
“Mekenzie Evans has experience, speed, confidence and multiple pitches,” Hancock said, “Jocee Mayfield has experience and accuracy.”
Jillian Moore (junior first base) and Lexi Bee (junior shortstop) will be anchors on the infield with the rest of the positions up for grabs.
Mayfield will be in centerfield when not pitching.
Hancock will look for Evans and Chloe Bruce to be leaders as seniors.
“These are our seniors this year. They are respected teammates and hold their teammates accountable,” Hancock said. “They work hard and expect the same from their team. (They are) positive and competitive.”
The roster will be versatile.
“All athletes listed have become very versatile and can play in most if not all positions and play them well,” Hancock said.
Fair Play opens the season Aug. 29-30 at the Humansville Tournament.
“This team plays with heart, grit and all are versatile athletes,” Hancock said. “(We need to improve) the mental and confidence aspect. We will continue to build that up.”
