Last season, Warsaw ran through a perfect regular season before falling to eventual Class 2 state champion Lamar in the district title game to finish 10-1 on the season.
“Last year we were able to have a lot of success throughout the season,” Warsaw head coach Ryan Boyer said. “We had a good balance of seniors and underclassmen contribute to this. We look to build off the momentum that we created last season.”
Six offensive and five defensive starters return from that team.
All five of the returning defensive starters earned some form of postseason honor. That group includes seniors Sean Reinersten (DB), Josh Harvath (MLB), Jayce Hubert (DB) and Luke Henderson (DB) along with sophomore Brecken Brewster (OLB).
Hubert and Harvath led that group in tackles with 54 each. Brewster was just behind them with 47. Harvath is the leading returner in sacks with three last season. Reinersten led Warsaw with two interceptions last season.
On offense, Harvath is the leading returning skill player coming off an all-conference and all-district season. He led the team with 959 yards and 13 touchdowns on 106 carries last season.
The offensive line looks to be strong with all-conference center Urijah Phillips (senior) and all-conference tackle Isaac Henderson (senior) along with guard Ayden Burdick (senior) all returning.
Luke Henderson and Hubert both return at wide receiver.
Ryan Fajen (senior QB/DB), Brennan Slavens (senior TE/LB), JC Minks (OL/DL), D’Angelo Ramirez (senior RB/LB), Cash Davis (junior WR/DB), Karter Quiocho (junior OL/DL), Connor Hockett (junior OL/DL), Ian Jackson (junior QB/DB), Johrdan Decker (sophomore RB/DB), Bostyn Wilson (sophomore TE/LB), Colton Chapman (sophomore TE/DE) and Brett Howe (sophomore QB/DE) are newcomers to watch.
Warsaw opens the season on Aug. 29 at home against Lawson.
“I am excited for this upcoming season,” Boyer said. “Our boys have been working hard and doing everything asked of them. Our community has been great in supporting our program and helping out in any way possible.”
