Joel Wells looking to bring success to the Rogersville Wildcats

The Rogersville football team gained a head coach that the Ozarks football community knows well.

“I’ve missed it the last couple of years,” said Joel Wells. “I got a great opportunity over where I am at and I’m looking forward to the year.”

Wells caught the coaching bug after retiring from the game 3 years ago. Prior, he spent 28 years coaching in Missouri and most recently spent 7 seasons with Harrison. The experienced coach rebuilt the Goblins into a playoff contending team. Rebuilding is something he has knack for.

“We have a long ways to goal as far as schemes, we don’t have a lot of stuff in or anything yet, but I just want to see our kids move and compete and be excited for football,” Wells said.

He’s bringing the gang back together from his time as head coach of Nixa.

“Coach Rich Rehagen, he was my defensive coordinator at Nixa for 7 years and then head coach,” Wells said. “Aaron Wells that was over there at Nixa as well, we got him from over there.”

Those times way back when are brought up quite often.

“Everyday, everyday we do,” Wells said with laughter. “There’s just like great memories there and you know hopefully we can draw on some of that to help these young men.”

He is ready to convert a team with a losing record these past two seasons to a squad adding to the win column.

“We’re going to hopefully get this thing going and pointed in the right direction,” Wells said. “I think our kids are excited about it and our coaches are.”
