Liberal sophomore Ben Dingman put the Class 1 triple jump competition on notice right out of the gate with a leap of 12.91 meters to take the event lead and then bettered that mark on his second jump to 13.04 to keep the lead.

Galena’s Wyatt Doak stepped up and wrestled the event lead away on the third jump with a 13.07 that held up until the final jumps.

That’s when Dingman dug deep for his best.

“I think after watching two people jump 13’s and just feeling it, I just let it loose,” Dingman said.“I just had to push myself and know I could jump further than that.”

Dingman went 13.38 on his final jump to secure the victory.

“It was really exhilarating (to hear the distance),” Dingman said. “I got really excited and felt really good after it.”
