Two years ago, Stockton senior Brandon Garner-Sims did not qualify for the state track meet.
Last season, he won the Class 2 shot put in his first appearance.
On Friday, Garner-Sims made it back-to-back state championships in the event with a second throw of 55-feet-3.75-inches.

“It (the winning throw) felt amazing. The positioning leading up to it felt great. The adrenalin leading up to it was just enough to get it out there and feel great about it,” Garner-Sims said.
Garner-Sims felt confidence and not pressure entering the meet as the defending state champion.
“(This meet) differed because I knew I could do (win),” Garner-Sims said. “I knew I could be the best out there. Great guys out here and great competition, but I just knew I could do better.”

Garner-Sims competes in the discus on Saturday to close out a high school career that started at El Dorado Springs and ends at Stockton.
“(Stockton) has meant the world to me,” Garner-Sims said. “I came in from El Dorado Springs, and I do love the guys over there, but Stockton accepted like one of their own on the very first day. I will forever appreciate them.”
