Dora’s Cade Nold not only wins state titles, but he also shatters records.

Last season, Nold broke the Class 1 400-meter dash record. He came into Friday’s meet with four individual state titles under his belt and another state record in his sights.

Nold dominated the field with a 1:53.81 to not only break the Class 1 record but obliterate it. The previous record was 1:55.97 set by Greenwood’s Caleb Masterson in 2003.

The Dora senior was aware of the record but had even loftier goals.

“I knew what the time was, but the goal was to run 1:52. That didn’t happen. It is still a PR for me, and I am still happy with it,” Nold said.

Nold now turns his attention to defending his back-to-back 400-meter dash titles on Saturday.

It is a feat he couldn’t even imagine when he made his first trip to state as a freshman.

“I was honored to be here my freshman year and I was excited. I knew that (the 800) was the race I wanted to run, but I never imagined that I would be here a state champion for the past three years,” Nold said.

The Dora star added a third individual race to his program this year in the 200, or as Nold calls it, a fun run.

“For me the 200 is just the fun race. My primary events are the 400 and 800,” Nold said. “The times I was running would qualify. It is basically a fun run.”

Nold is seeded second in that ‘fun run’ final going into Saturday. He also runs anchor on Dora’s 4×400 meter relay team.

McAuley Catholic’s Franklin Veer (4th – 1:59.36) and Michael Parrigon (6th – 1:59.87) along with Thomas Jefferson’s Liam Cook (7th – 2:00.30) and Hermitage’s DeJuan Chambers (2:00.92) also earned all-state honors in the Class 1 800.
