Out of an abundance of caution for student-athlete safety, the scheduled doubleheader between Murray State and Missouri State on Saturday, May 17, has been canceled.

Heavy rains in Murray, Kentucky, yesterday and overnight resulted in standing water on the playing field, making it unsafe. It was determined Thursday evening that Friday’s contest would be pushed to a noon doubleheader start on Saturday.

The Missouri Valley Conference does not have a rescheduling policy (nor does it have a ‘rain date’) for regular-season baseball league games.

Missouri State (27-23, 17-8 MVC) and Murray State (35-13, 17-8 MVC) will end the league campaign as Missouri Valley Conference co-champions. Murray State will be the top seed at the upcoming MVC Baseball Championship in Normal, Illinois, by virtue of its win against Missouri State in the teams’ only meeting on Thursday, May 15. Missouri State will be the No. 2 seed at next week’s championship event. The full bracket announcement will be made later this evening at the conclusion of the final league contest.
