After falling in the district championship game on Wednesday, the Gainesville Lady Bulldogs released balloons to remember sister, cousin and teammate Andrea Winrod, who passed late last year. In the crowd is her sister Amie, the starting catcher, who now wears number 11: Andrea’s number.
Plato, their opponent, also took to the field. Both teams coming together to pray for Winrod and her family.
“Andrea will always be in our hearts,” said Gainesville Head Coach Joe Walrath. “I think she was here with us today you know kind of that little angel in the outfield. I know it was hard on the girls but at the same time it’s a blessing the way you can see both teams come together to honor her. I think that was great.”
