With a pair of victories Saturday, Makena Hall continues to build on an already impressive resume.
The Aurora senior captured first place in the pole vault (3.2m) and 100 meter hurdles (15.71).
A favorite in the long jump competition, Hall opted to skip the event and, instead, help her teammates Jaelyn Ernest, Miley Feringa and Mallory Brogdon advance to sectionals in the 4×200 relay.

“Well, I knew it was pretty ranked in state, but I’ve been having trouble jumping anyways, Hall said. “I knew that going to the 4×200, I have a faster time than the girl I took, and I could help lead other people to possibly go to state. So I was kind of happy about that, because in the past years, we haven’t had a lot of people go to state. So I was like, yeah, I’ll try something different. I’ve never ran anything more than a 100, so we were kind of just going with it.”
Hall also entered the meet a bit under the weather and felt fortunate to find success under adverse conditions.
“I’ve actually been sick the past few days, and I’ve only practiced once or twice this week,” Hall said. “Monday and Tuesday was the only other practice, so I was kind of just relying on my form, and I couldn’t eat anything today. I was throwing up a little bit. So we’re just relying on form at that point.”
