It was all Monett at Monday’s Big 8 golf championships at the Carthage Golf Course.
The Cubs won the team title with 317 strokes, which was 12 ahead of runner-up Nevada. Individually, Jaxon Bailey was dominant for Monett with a one-under 70 to win the individual title by seven strokes. It marked his fourth individual Big 8 golf championship.
Bailey closed out the front nine with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to go to two-under. His first birdie came on a 190-yard par 3. The second was on a 487-yard par 5.
He stayed hot to open the second nine with a birdie on a 487-yard par 5 to get to three under on his way to his one-under 70 for the day.
August Black gave Monett a second top five finisher with his 81 good for fifth overall.
Bryce Hoyt and Brady Rhea shot matching 83’s for the Cubs to finish tied for seventh. Parker Doss rounded out Monett’s performances with a 22nd place finish 93.
Team runner-up Nevada also had the individual runner-up Preston Drake who shot a 77. Mt. Vernon’s Carter Clark (78) and Cassville’s Dennis Craig (80) were third and fourth.
