MSU’s Stokes wins Valley Newcomer of the Week award for 6th time

ST. LOUIS – Lacy Stokes of Missouri State women’s basketball has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the sixth time this season, the league announced today (Feb. 6).
 
Stokes was one of MSU’s leading scorers in last Saturday’s road win at Southern Illinois. She scored 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and went 4-for-5 at the charity stripe. She also pulled down five rebounds, tied for the game high with five assists and collected three steals.
 
The Mount Vernon, Mo. native scored a team-high six points (2-2 FG, 2-2 FT) in the third quarter at SIU as the Lady Bears erased a one-point halftime deficit and retook the lead. She now owns 10 games this season with at least five assists.

This marks her sixth MVC Newcomer of the Week award this season. Her other five honors came on Dec. 4, Dec. 18, Dec. 27, Jan. 9 and Jan. 30.
 
Missouri State is back at home this weekend as the Lady Bears welcome Belmont on Fri., Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and Murray State on Sun., Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
