Springfield Public Schools Athletic Director Josh Scott tells KY3 Sports that the Ozark Conference and Central Ozark Conference are having discussions about football scheduling between the two leagues for next season.

The change in scheduling comes as some area teams prepare to join a brand-new conference, which appears to be named the ‘Ozark Mountain Conference.’

Tuesday afternoon, West Plains Head Football Coach Joel Wyatt tweeted that his Zizzers were looking to fill open dates for next year’s football schedule, which would seem to indicate that the Zizzers are not part of the ongoing scheduling talks between the COC and OC.

On the COC side, the Carl Junction Board of Education posted a Special Meeting for October 9, 2023, to discuss the approval of joining the previously mentioned new Ozark Mountain Conference.

Both the OC and COC have used “closed” football schedules in recent years where each team’s full regular season schedule is only conference opponents, except for Springfield Central, which has played as an independent since 2020. Central will remain independent next season despite these conference changes.

Other schools involving the Ozark Conference and Central Ozark Conference are expected to be part of the new Ozark Mountain Conference with news coming as soon as Wednesday morning.
