Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU football team had their home opener this afternoon as they hosted the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets. Both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the game, but the Bearcats fell by a final score of 33-39. That moves SBU to 1-1 on the season.
Senior Kylan Herrera had a career game with six total receptions for 136 yards, nearly half of the teams’ total reception yards. He had one touchdown and a long catch of 55 yards. Herrera now has over 200 receiving yards on the season averaging over 27 yards per catch.
Junior Logan Turner had another great game, scoring 15 total points for the Bearcats. He nailed all four of his field goal attempts giving a career high in field goals made in a game. Three of his field goals were over 40 yards long of 48. Turner’s four field goals today moved him into 3rd all time in SBU career field goals made with 24.
Southwest Baptist football continues their home stand next Saturday as they host Texas Permian Basin. The Bearcats dominated the Falcons last year at their place 41-17. They will look to hold them off on their home turf at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 16th.
