Missouri State’s Clay nabs all-district honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri State standout Donovan Clay (G/F, Alton, Ill.) has been named to the NABC All-District 16 Team, the organization announced Tuesday (March 14).

Clay was named to the District 16 second team, marking the third straight year the Bears have had a representative on the prestigious team as selected by the national coaches association.

The MSU upperclassman was previously named to the All-MVC second team as well as earning a spot on the MVC All-Defensive Team for the second straight season.

Clay’s 11.9 points per game scoring average was tops among MoState players in 2022-23, while he also led the club in minutes (960), field goals (139), field goal attempts (297), free throws (62), free throw attempts (92), assists (108) and total points (358). He was also second on the club in rebounds (166), rebounds per game (5.5) and blocked shots (29).

He was part of a 17-15 Missouri State squad for coach Dana Ford that flipped the script on a rebuilding season to reel off a dozen Missouri Valley Conference wins, including five league road victories. With Clay’s efforts leading the way, the Bears also rank in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense (63.2 ppg) and in the top 50 nationally in blocked shots (4.4).
