Walker’s eight three-pointers help Sparta beat Greenwood

No. 1 Sparta pulled away from No. 4 Greenwood in the second half to win 68-57 and advance to the Class3 District 11 championship game.

The Trojans and Blue Jays were tied at 29-29 at the half. Out of the break, Sparta picked up the pace offensively with a 22-point third quarter to take a 51-46 lead into the fourth quarter. Sparta extended the lead in the final quarter with the help of a seven-for-eight mark from the free throw line to pick up the win.

Kavan Walker was on fire from three-point range knocking down eight 3-pointers in the game on his way to a game-high 27 points. Sparta hit 12 total 3-pointers in the game with Steven Brown making the other four 3-pointers for all 12 of his points. Jacob Lafferty was also in double figures with 16 points.

Nick Burri led Greenwood with 21 points. Collin Clark had 15 points.

Sparta advances to face No. 2 seed Strafford in the Class 3 District 11 championship game at 7 pm on Friday in Fair Grove.
