Stockton pulls away from East Newton after slow start

No. 1 seed Stockton got off to a slow start against No. 4 seed East Newton in the Class 3 District 12 semifinals, but picked it up after the first quarter to secure a 56-33 win.

East Newton carried an 11-10 lead after one quarter using a balanced attack with four different players scoring in the frame.

In the second quarter, Stockton offense remained steady with 11 points but the defense clamped down holding East Newton to just two points to take a 21-13 lead into the break. Stockton kept the pressure on in the third quarter expanding the lead to 35-20 going into the fourth quarter where the Tigers put up 21 points.

Jay and Jax Baxter led Stockton in the game with Jay scoring 22 points and Jax adding in 15.

The Tigers advance to face the winner of Lamar and Southwest in the Class 3 District 12 championship game on Friday at 6 pm in Diamond.
