Balanced Sparta beats Spokane in district quarterfinals

No. 3 seed Sparta beat Spokane for the second time in eight days to advance to the Class 3 District 11 semifinals. The Lady Trojans, who beat Spokane 64-52 on Feb. 13, handled the Lady Owls 82-57 in the rematch.

The game was close after one quarter with Sparta holding an 18-15 lead. In the second quarter, Sparta locked in and won the frame 23-8 to take a 41-23 lead into the half. A 26-15 third-quarter advantage helped put the game away.

Four different players scored in double figures with Natalie Wilks leading the way at 19 points. Mya Fulton was just behind her with 18 points. Brynn Holt and Megan Brown each contributed 11 points.

The win sets up a district semifinal showdown with No. 2 seed Strafford at 7:30 pm on Thursday in the semifinal round. Last year, Sparta had its season ended by Strafford in the same round in a 48-45 decision.
