Webb City girls swimming wins SWMO Championships

Webb City girls swimming used two individual championships and eight total finalists to win the SWMO Swim & Dive Championships team title with 384 points. That was 40 points better than runner-up West Plains. Ozark finished third with 331 points.

The Cardinals got two titles from Sophia Whitesell who won the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.11) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.38).

Webb City also got top six finishes from all three relays with the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay finishing third and the 200-yard freestyle relay taking fourth.

Norah Klosterman was the next-highest individual finisher for Webb City taking third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:47.13. Skylar Powell gave Webb City two of the top four 50-yard freestyle finishers taking fourth in a time of 25.18. Camryn Klosterman rounded out the top six finishers taking fifth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:23.47.

Webb City’s depth was on display as well with nine other swimmers placing in consolation finals.

West Plains used two event titles, nine finalists and six consolation finalists to take second place.

The Zizzers were especially strong in the freestyle races. Paige Sheridan won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:15.42, which was almost 24 seconds faster than the runner-up. The Zizzers also had the fifth, seventh and 10th place finishers in the event.

West Plains also won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:45.73.

The 200-yard freestyle was a strong source of points with the Zizzers finishing second, third and fifth in the event.

Third-place finishing Ozark won one relay gold medal taking first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.44.

No team had more event gold medals than fourth-place Carl Junction. The Bulldogs got wins from Chloe Miller in the 50-yard freestyle (24.02), Skyler Sundy in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.64) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.70) on their way to a fourth-place finish in the team race. Carl Junction posted eight total top six finishes on the day.

Carthage brought home two gold medals with Madison Riley winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.90) and the 100-yard butterfly (57.48).
