Kickapoo dedicates “Hall of Fame Court” in honor of three coaches

The three individuals spent a combined 60 years of coaching, amassing an incredible 1,916 wins, 52 conference championships, 51 district championships, 20 final four appearances, and 7 state titles in the sports of basketball and volleyball for Kickapoo High School, laying the ground work for what these programs are today and building a tremendous reputation throughout the state of Missouri, earning each of them a spot in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

SUE SCHUBLE

In her 28 years as the head basketball and volleyball coach at Kickapoo High School, Sue Schuble had a tremendous career in both sports. Schuble began her coaching career in 1973 at Kickapoo. As head basketball coach, Schuble led the lady Chiefs to 13 conference championships, 15 district championships, 4th place state finishes in 1975, 1976, and 1999: 2nd place finishes in 1993 and 1994 and first place finishes in 1985, 1987, and 2001. She ended the 2001 season with 562 career wins.

With 552 career volleyball wins, Schubles teams were equally impressive earning 18 conference championships, 13 district championships, a 4th place state finish in 1995, a third place finish in 1993 and second place finishes in 1982 and 1994.

ROY GREEN

Coach Roy Green coached 26 seasons at Kickapoo High School finishing his career with 588 career wins, an average of 21 wins per season.

The 588 victories are the most ever recorded by a Springfield Public Schools coach. Green’s teams made five Final Four appearances, resulting in two state championships (2003 and 2006), two runner-up spots, and one third place finish. His teams claimed 17 district titles, 14 conference titles, and from 2001 to 2009 recorded an incredible 65 consecutive conference wins. Coach Green’s 2003 team finished the season at 30-1 with a national ranking of No. 10 in the country. In 2005, his Kickapoo team won the  Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions. In addition, Coach Green coached a Mr. Show Me Basketball in Spencer Laurie.

Coach Green was named Springfield Tip-Off Club Coach of the Year 10 times. In 2005, he received the Missouri State University Distinguished Alumni award.

STEPHANIE PHILLIPS

Stephanie Phillips served as Head basketball coach of the Lady Chiefs from 2001-2010. Coach Phillips led the Lady Chiefs to a record of 214 wins against only 38 losses giving her an 85% win percentage in her nine seasons as head coach. The Lady Chiefs won seven conference championships and six district championships in those nine seasons and made three Final Four appearances, winning state championships in 2003 and 2005 and finishing third in 2010. Along with the state title in 2003 and a 31-0 record, the Lady Chiefs finished the season with a national ranking of No. 13 in the country. Coach Phillips also coached two Ms. Show Me Basketball players in Laura Granzow and Heather Ezell.
