2022 All O-Zone Football Team

featureallozone

The seventh annual All-O-Zone Top 44 Football Team is here.

This team is different than other teams in that we are selecting the top 44 players in the Ozarks regardless of position and placing them on a First 11, Second 11, Third 11 and Fourth 11. This leaves room for multiple players from the same position without having to force a team together based solely on positions and allows us to evaluate players for what they did on both sides of the ball.

To get to these final 44 we used coach nominations and observations along with staff observations throughout the season. In addition, stats, postseason honors and team success played a big role in helping us identify the Top 44 players in the Ozarks from the thousands that played this season.

NAMES ARE IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER OUTSIDE OF THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

FIRST 11

Luke Gall, Carthage (Player of the Year)

STATS: 246 carries, 2,000 yards, 40 TD; 15 receptions, 338 yards, 2 TD; 106 total tackles, 7 TFL, 1 PBU, 1 FF, 1 FR
HONORS: Class 5 Offensive Player of the Year; Class 5 First-Team All-State RB; Class 5 Region Offensive & Defensive POY; UN Class 5 First-Team All-Region RB & LB; COC Offensive & Defensive POY; UN First-Team All-COC RB & LB

Gall is our back-to-back player of the year. There wasn’t a more dominant two-way player in southwest Missouri than Gall. He totaled 2,000 yards rushing for 40 touchdowns with another 338 yards and two touchdowns on 15 receptions. Defensively, Gall had 106 tackles. All of these numbers could’ve been even bigger, but he was limited early in the playoffs due to injury. He was named the Class 5 Offensive Player of the Year and earned COC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. His blend of physicality and speed was an incredible combination. The second play in the highlight above has both on display. Gall breaks through a host of would-be tacklers and then turns on the jets to run away. He finishes his high school career as an all-time area great.

Joel Beshore, Lamar

STATS: 56-for-72 passing, 1,122 yards, 17 TD; 144 carries, 1,126 yards, 21 TD; 27 tackles, 2 TFL, 9 PBU, 1 INT
HONORS: Class 2 First-Team All-State ATH; Class 2 Region Offensive POY; Class 2 First-Team All-Region QB; First-Team All-Big 8 East AP

Beshore was named Class 2 First-Team All-State as an athlete. ‘Athlete’ is about the best way to describe Beshore and you just need to watch a few of his plays in the video above to understand what I mean. His speed and vision were unfair at the Class 2 level. He threw for 1,122 yards while rushing for another 1,126 yards. He had a combined 38 touchdowns on the year. Defensively, Beshore was a ballhawk with nine pass breakups and an interception.

Ramone Green, Nixa

STATS: 241 carries, 2,223 yards, 32 TD; 18 receptions, 231 yards
HONORS: Class 6 First-Team All-State RB; Class 6 Region Offensive POY; UN Class 6 First-Team All-Region RB; First-Team All-COC RB

Green returned for his senior season after missing his junior year with injury and made up for lost time. He led the area in rushing with 241 carries for 2,223 yards and 32 touchdowns while adding another 18 receptions for 231 yards. As the games got bigger, Green got better. He rushed for 225 yards and two touchdowns Week 1 against Webb City. His best game of the year was a 35-carry, 306-yard, five-touchdown masterpiece against Joplin. In the district semifinals in terrible weather, Green answered the bell with a season-high 38 carries for 252 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Ray-Pec. Whichever college Green chooses is getting a steal.

Micah Lindsey, Carthage

STATS: 94 total tackles, 19 TFL, 6 sacks, 2 PBU, 4 FF, 1 FR, 3 blocked kicks
HONORS: Class 5 First-Team All-State DL; Class 5 First-Team All-Region DL; UN First-Team All-COC DL

Much like his teammate Luke Gall, COC offensive coordinators are happy to see Lindsey graduate. He was a First 11 selection on last year’s All-O-Zone team and is back again this year after he earned first-team all-state honors on the defensive line with 94 total tackles including 19 tackles for a loss and six sacks. Lindsey was also a nightmare for the opponent’s kicking game with three blocked kicks.

Andrew Link, Kickapoo

STATS: 45 tackles, 8 TFL, 9 sacks, 1 FF
HONORS: Class 6 Second-Team All-State DL; Class 6 Region Co-Defensive POY; UN Class 6 First-Team All-Region DE; Ozark Conference Defensive POY; UN First-Team All-Ozark Conference DE

Link was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks this year. The Missouri State commit tallied up nine sacks and eight tackles for a loss from his defensive end spot. He earned Class 6 Region Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and Ozark Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Link’s explosiveness off the snap is incredible. His tape above should have all area football fans excited for his potential at Missouri State.

Cade Muscia, Lebanon

STATS: 255 carries, 2,016 yards, 30 TD; 45 total tackles, 6 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FF
HONORS: Class 5 First-Team All-State RB; Class 5 First-Team All-Region RB; Co-Ozark Conference Offensive POY; UN First-Team All-Ozark Conference RB

Muscia was a workhorse for Lebanon once again with 255 carries for 2,016 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior. He earned first-team all-state honors in Class 5 as a running back and was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the Ozark Conference. He also impacted the defense when given the chance with 45 total tackles including six tackles for a loss and three sacks. He took his one interception on defense back for a touchdown.

Case Sanderson, Nevada

STATS: 80 total tackles, 16 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 1 FF, 6 PBU; 60 carries, 583 yards, 13 TD
HONORS: Class 4 Second-Team All-State DE; Class 4 Region Defensive POY; First-Team All-Region DE; UN First-Team All-Big 8 East DE; Second-Team All-Big 8 East AP

Sanderson is a baseball player who plays a little football on the side and does it very well. The University of Nebraska baseball signee was a two-way force for the Tigers this year. He earned Class 4 Second-Team All-State honors as a defensive end while being named Class 4 Region Defensive Player of the Year. He lived in opposing team’s backfields with 16 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks. Sanderson also had a knack for swatting passes with six pass breakups. Offensively, Sanderson turned 60 carries into 583 yards and 13 TD.

Bear Shore, Camdenton

STATS: 144 carries, 816 yards, 15 TD; 150-for-249 passing, 2,014 yards, 24 TD
HONORS: Class 5 Second-Team All-State QB; Class 5 First-Team All-Region QB; Co-Ozark Conference Offensive POY; First-Team All-Ozark Conference QB

Bear Shore helped send his dad, Camdenton head coach Jeff Shore, out with an Ozark Conference title and a 9-2 record. He threw for 2,014 yards and 24 touchdowns on 150-for-249 passing. The first few plays on his tape above show what you need to know about his ability throwing the ball with great arm strength and touch. He was named Co-Ozark Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Class 5 Second-Team All-State. Shore rushed for 816 yards and 14 more touchdowns on 144 carries.

Spencer Ward, Nixa

STATS: 151 total tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 2 INT, 3 FR, 2 FF; 17 carries, 147 yards, 3 TD, 9 receptions, 90 yards, 2 TD
HONORS: Class 6 First-Team All-State DB; UN Class 6 First-Team All-Region DB; UN First-Team All-COC DB

Ward broke out in a big way his junior year pulling down 151 total tackles with three tackles for a loss, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. The first two plays on the highlight above display two great pieces of Ward’s game. In the first highlight, he makes a great read on the ball for an interception. The second play of the highlight shows how physical he can be with a huge hit. Ward also took 17 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns with 9 receptions for 90 yards and two more touchdowns. That is a touchdown one out of every five offensive touches. If Ward is more of a two-way player next year, he could threaten to do what Luke Gall did the past two years and claim both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the COC.

Caden Wiest, Reeds Spring

STATS: 29 receptions, 405 yards, 7 TD; 16 carrries, 65 yards, 6 TD; 110 total tackles, 15 TFL, 6.5 sacks, 4 PBU, 2 FF, 1 FR
HONORS: Class 3 First-Team All-State TE; UN Class 3 First-Team All-Region TE & DE; UN First-Team All-Big 8 East TE; First-Team All-Big 8 East DE

Reeds Spring had a host of great players this year which is why they found themselves in the state championship game. Wiest is a one-of-one physical marvel. He stands at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds and is a state qualifier in the 200-meter dash. He used that size, speed and strength to pull down 110 total tackles with 15 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks. Offensively, one out of every four of his receptions went for a touchdown with 29 catches for 405 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was even more efficient running the ball with better than one out of every three carries going for a touchdown turning 16 carries into 65 yards and six touchdowns. Southwest Missouri football fans will get to follow his career at the next level at Missouri State.

He was incredible at pursuing the ball on his way to 110 tackles on the season. When it came time for him to help stuff the run, he was devastating off the edge with 13 tackles for a loss on the season.
